It happened very, very rarely- but Jamie was alone. How could this be?! he joked to himself, smiling amusedly at his own inside joke. It was, however, quite true that he was rarely alone. He'd finished classes about ten minutes ago and like most guys, his stomach was on his mind. So he strolled through the mall center, eyes drifting over the shops as he went.
He'd only been in his own company for those ten minutes and already it was too long. He looked around, trying to see if there was anyone he knew or anyone he wanted to know. A rare frown appeared on his face when no one obviously came into sight.
After buying a milkshake, he continued to wander. He really didn't want to go and eat by himself, he wanted to meet someone before he thought about a meal. He flicked out his phone and began to click through his texts, wondering who was around.

'You have a million ways to make me laugh' After waking up this morning and decided she really needed to get herself prepared for her first class later on in the week Stephanie had made plans to go the mall. But not the same plans she would usually make, with friends.Because this time she was going alone and not out of choice either but because she didn't really have many friends at the college as of yet, well apart from Seth but for one he was probably busy and the other reason being she knew they weren't exactly on friends terms right now.Not only did she need to get some supplies but after that big not so happy Reunion in the college grounds she was in need of some decent retail therapy. And being the lazy girl that she could sometimes be her decision fell upon the on campus mall mainly because she couldn't be bothered to get in her car and drive those miles to the mall off campus but also because she knew the college mall would have everything she needed.
Stepping into the building her eyes fell straight upon a familiar blonde young man, it was clear who it was even from the long distance they were apart, because she could recognize her friend anywhere.Deciding to go and hang out with him she pulled her phone out of her pocket, seeing that he had his in hand as she gave a smile. She had missed hanging out with Jamie, they had met a couple of months back when she first moved to Miami and since then they had stayed friends, not the best of friends but pretty close, especially for her, she never usually socialized with people outside of her range.Pushing the button to call him that playful smile stayed on her lips "Hey Jay" she said when he finally answered "i like that shirt you are wearing" she then added hoping to either freak him out a little or get him to notice her.

Sipping on his milkshake, the boredom was beginning to eat away at Jamie's mind. What would happen if he ran down the escalator yelling like a madman? Would people laugh or run away? These odd thoughts were what consumed him when he didn't have any social attention.
Suddenly his phone began buzzing, and he saw that Stephanie was calling him. He hadn't hung out with her for a while, and grinned as he happily answered with a 'Y'ehllo?'.
Upon hearing her talk, a bemused expression covered his face but he didn't let it phase him. He continued to stroll casually as if unaffected by this strange greeting. Instead, he laughed. "Thanks, doll, and I like your hair today," he grinned into the conversation, eyes flickering around subconsciously for her. It didn't matter that he couldn't see her yet, she had nice hair everyday so he was safe with that one. "Where are you, Steph, my little stalker?"

'You have a million ways to make me laugh' An amused smile seemed to be stuck on her lips as she waited for Jamie's response, knowing him it would be a typical joking remark because thats how he always acted and she loved him for it, he was crazy that was for sure but only around certain people, she was just glad she was one of them that got to see this side of him. Finally hearing his laughter she also laughed along with him, it was as though it was contagious and she had to pick up on what he was doing.Feeling accomplished that she had made the boy happy she started to walk a little further in his direction hoping to avoid his eyeline so she could creep up behind him, immature. She knew it was immature but she loved to act like a kid sometimes, she didn't want to completely let go of her days as a teenager after all she had one year left until she hid her Twenty's and she wanted to be as childish and crazy as ever before her time as a teenager was up.
"Can you even see me?" she asked, still laughing, he had just complimented her yet she was 99.9 % sure that he couldn't see her considering her eyes were on him and he hadn't once looked up in her direction."but I'll accept the compliment anyway Hun" she replied gradually walking up behind him, trying not to laugh because that might give it away. But she did laugh, only because of his comment, he called her a stalker and it just made her giggle unwillingly "Now now Jamie, if i told you where i was that would give away the whole stalker persona don't you think?" she asked rhetorically as she hung up the phone and placed her hands over his eyes "Boo!" she exclaimed as she laughed and waited for his response, still not taking her hands from his eyes.

He heard her speaking as she came closer, both through the phone and the air, and so he just waited in silence, grinning amusedly and waiting. She was definitely getting closer, by the sound of her voice.
When her hands wrapped around his eyes, he feigned shock. "Gasp!" he exaggerated, jumping away and pulling her hands from his eyes. He turned with wide eyes, grabbing her hands and twirling her around for a moment. He loved to act a little crazy around her, knowing she wouldn't think he was wierd for it was reassuring.
"Applause, applause! It's Steph, our own Royal Highness," Jamie cheered, bowing and ignoring the strange looks he received. Laughing, he stepped back to allow her to get her bearings after his dramatic greeting.

'You have a million ways to make me laugh' Hearing him actually say the word Gasp instead of pretending to gasp she laughed, how was it that one person could just cheer you up like that? it was unbelievable because to be honest she wasn't exactly feeling amazingly good at the moment, thoughts of Seth had been constantly in her mind since their conversation and she couldn't decipher whether it was a good thing or a bad thing.Feeling his hands on hers she waited for him to pull them away and he did, turning around to face her too.She flashed him a cute smile before he proceeded to twirl her around and to be truthful she loved it, she loved how he always greeted her.
Putting one hand to her heart as he introduced her for the sake of it she faked a look of overwhelming emotion as she gave a swift bow and flipped her hair behind her shoulders."Please, hold the applause!" she demanded holding her hands up in the air to play along with this little scenario they had going on."And no pushing please, theres enough Stephanie for everyone" she finished off as she rolled her eyes at their silliness and gave a giggle."and now for Jamie, Miami universities own Madman!" she pretended to introduce him as she watched people give them strange looks, for some reason she didn't care though, when she was around Jamie she felt she could act like a two year old and get away with it.

He could only laugh along with her as she played up to the charade, as usual he never had to worry about acting mature or being at all serious when Steph was around. He knew he wanted to know what she'd been up to recently, but for now the acting was the most fun, and he grinned at her introduction of him.
"Ohh, you flatter me!" he cooed, striking a pose or two (milkshake still in hand!) and pulling a face at a passing girl. She hurried on past them quickly, and he burst out laughing. "Have no fear, my good people, we'll be here all week!" he called to the passers-by, and he couldn't say much more because he was laughing too much.
"Ahh, my dear Steph," he laughed, pulling an arm around her shoulder and beginning to stroll again. He sipped from his milkshake, eyes twinkling with the humour and silliness of the situation. He loved making Steph laugh, mostly because some people got the wrong idea about her and thought she wasn't a nice person. She was one of the nicest he knew.
"What has been happening in your life? I love being friends with royalty, you've always got such juicy gossip," he flicked his hand up and down as he acted particularly camp, laughing again and relaxing into his usual stance. He lifted his arm from her shoulder and continued to stroll, looking across at her.

'You have a million ways to make me laugh' Watching Jamie pull all kinds of poses, she continued to laugh, a lot more than she thought she could actually. She hadn't laughed like this in a long time and some crazy conversations with one of her good friends was all she needed."Watch your milkshake you might spill it!" she said in between laughing, watching him pull a face and then speak to the crowd she shook her head at their silliness as she had to breath deep because of laughing so much.Grasping her stomach because it hurt so much from continuous laughter she tried to calm herself down and when she finally did she welcomed Jamie's one armed hug by placing her arm around his waist.
"And my Dear Jamie, oh how i love you and your silly ways" she replied , resting her head against him as they walked together. She didn't care about how this looked to other people, maybe they thought Steph and Jamie were dating because they were always so close but she couldn't care less, she treasured their friendship, not what anybody else thought about them."Oh you know, same old same old" she lied trying to make out like there was nothing worth telling, when infact there was. With a playful smile she stood up straight and continued to walk "Well.." about to say something she paused mid sentence to giggle at his hand gestures, shaking her head she decided to start again "anyway, as i was saying .. i bumped into my ex boyfriend from high school the other day, that was pretty drama filled" she said, turning her head to look up at him and wait for his response.

He glanced ahead, listening as she spoke. He was waiting for that change of tone when she would actually tell him what had been happening- he didn't believe for a second it was 'same old, same old'. He grinned at the thought, looking sideways with his bright blue eyes.
"Pleaase," he rolled his eyes, waiting and she finally changed track to the truth. So, her ex was back in town? By the sound of it, she was both pleased and a little apprehensive. He looked sideways and caught her eye, he couldn't quite make out her expression. He linked arms with her, throwing the rest of his milkshake into a bin as they passed it.
"Sounds pretty dramatic to me. Was it a good kinda drama or a bad kind?" he asked curiously, watching her little blonde head bob up and down as she walked. He was always glad to have Steph, she was hilarious and her life was endlessly interesting.

'You have a million ways to make me laugh' Smiling when he figured out that she was lying she gave a simple shrug, after all she knew he wouldn't believe her when she said same old same old, like her life was ever anything less than dramatic. It probably explained the way she was sometimes but to be honest she really didn't care, she had a couple of good friends and thats all she needed.Hearing him say it was pretty dramatic she shook her head slowly in agreement, it definitely was dramatic, but the good kind or the bad kind? hmm that was a good question.Thinking about it for a few moments before replying she looked ahead of her, watching the people pass by, maybe to give her some inspiration for her answer.
"well I'm not really sure.." she started, taking a deep breath and pausing for a while."i mean we didn't exactly end on good terms and things were kind of awkward in places" she then added, sure she had feelings for Seth but she wasn't going to admit that to Jamie, she hadn't even admitted it to herself yet, it was a hard step."But seeing him again was...well it was just nice" she wanted to say that it was amazing, that she loved every moment of it but she really wasn't sure of her opinion on it, all she knew was that she was confused."But enough about me, whats happening with you?" she asked in a hurried attempt to change the subject.

Jamie smiled a knowing smile, looking at her. He was kind of guessing she still had feelings for it, she sounded like she did. But the way she hurriedly changed the subject made him guess she wasn't exactly comfortable discussing that with him. It was cool, he knew that he didn't tell anyone everything so he hardly expected her too. Inside he grinned companionably.
"I'm sure it'll all work out, doll," he said sympathetically, squeezing her hand and then swinging it back and forth like the child he felt like. He didn't care how it looked, he was always silly around Steph. "Me? Well, you knowwww, bit of this and bit of that. Still waiting for Princess Charming to turn up and let me sweep her off her feet, but I don't mind waiting if she's anything like I hope she is," he grinned at the corniness of what he'd just say, but he didn't care- it was true.

'You have a million ways to make me laugh' Seeing his grin she was expecting a flood of questions about the situation. What happened? Who is he? Do you still have feelings for him? But none of that surfaced in the conversation, instead he smiled a familiar smile, a friendly, sweet smile and said nothing for a moment. It was quite a shock to her though because usually when she came up with a subject as juicy as this one whoever she was with would giver her the big twenty questions and expect huge answers. But not Jamie, it was then that she learned just how sweet he was, she knew of it before but he could actually respect what she wanted to keep to herself and what she wanted to tell.
Feeling his hand on hers she gave a smile as he began to speak "Well i hope so.." she then replied as she joined in with him swinging their hands back and forth "Hey Jay.." she said to attract his attention.Once she did she stared into his eyes, gave a warm smile and parted her lips "thanks" was all she said. She felt that he would know what she meant, thanks for giving her the privacy of the situation and for being sweet to her.
Listening to his statement she gave a small laugh a his hopes, she knew someone would come along, an amazing girl who probably wouldn't even deserve Jamie, he was that amazing."Aww, i know theres someone out there for you, but she will have to be the most amazing, sweet and honest girl ever otherwise she will have to deal with me" she said pretending to be aggressive as she lifted her clenched fist in the air."How do you see your perfect girl then?" she asked at his statement about him not minding the wait if she was anything like he hoped she was.

Jamie's attention was caught when appropriate, and he smiled warmly back at her when she thanked him. He knew he was a good friend, because she deserved a good friend and he never liked to pry at other people's business if they didn't want to talk about it. It was one of those things he never understood, but his misunderstanding of this had made him very easy to talk to and trustworthy when someone did want to open up about something.
Onto the next topic of conversation, though, and he looked thoughtful. He stopped swinging hands and let go of hers, smiling at her to show it wasn't because he was mad at her or anything like that. He laughed when she said about the other girl having to go through her- although he loved Steph to pieces he knew she was not always so sugar-sweet to people, he wouldn't wish the fate of going through her on any unsuspecting girl!
"My perfect girl... well, I'm really not sure. She's gotta be her own sort of person, and she's gotta let me be all gentlemanly for her- I have this thing about holding doors open," he laughed as he gave his example. "I don't care what she looks like, but I've gotta think she's pretty. And... well, I don't know, I just know I've gotta see something in her that makes me want to know more?" He ended on a questioning note as he wasn't sure if that last part made sense.

'You have a million ways to make me laugh' Looking ahead of her as she waited for his answer her attention was drawn to a jewelry shop just ahead of them.Of course she would still listen to him when he began to speak but just now, in the moments of silence she could let her eyes wander. She would have to come back here at some point later on, maybe when she had more money on her because there really was such thing as retail therapy and she pretty much needed that right now.Upon hearing him speak she turned her head to face him, letting him know that he had her full attention, her chestnut brown eyes locking onto him as she smiled.
When he finished she put one hand against her chest and gave him a sweet smile."Awww.." she couldn't help saying that, that word just sort of slipped through her lips. And the reason? Because his explanation of his perfect girl was just so sweet, he definitely was a giant sweetheart.Hopefully he would find that girl he was looking for and she knew deep down that he would."Well, shes out there somewhere, i just know it..shes gonna fall at your feet when she meets you too" she said sweetly, it wasn't very often that she was this nice but around her friends she was always full of compliments and fun.

"Let's hope so," Jamie laughed, watching Steph and wondering whether he should ask about her love life. But it was probably really complicated and if she wanted to talk about it, she would. He just kept his light eyes on her for a moment as if trying to figure her out. Sure she was all compliments and fun, but he could tell there was something big bugging her.
"You sure you don't want to talk about that guy, Steph?" he asked, looking at her in a concerned way. There was that ever-present look in his eyes which said I'm here if you need me, but we don't have to talk if you don't want to. He pouted a bit and frowned, deciding it'd be better not to make this serious. She could always talk about it and laugh at the same time... right?
